Kempinski Hotel Bristol: Historically protected ensemble "tower" to be refurbished

29. October 2008 – The distinctive historically protected ensemble “tower” of the Kempinski Hotel Bristol on Berlin’s famous Kurfürstendamm is to be refurbished. The operating company, Nordinvest, is investing around 5.5 million euros in the conversion of the 11-storey building section of this world famous hotel. Building work on the Kempinski group’s original hotel will begin on 1st November and will be completed by the end of February.

The forthcoming refurbishment will involve gutting all the rooms and suites in the building as well as the bathrooms and corridors, fitting new soundproof and insulation glazing as well as new electrical and sanitary installations and a re-design. Two exclusive deluxe suites, each around 200m², will also be built on the tenth and eleventh floors of the building and these can also be joined to form a 514 m² Presidential Suite across two floors. This new flagship suite of the Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin will be designed by renowned interior designer Peter Rudolf and will feature carefully selected, exclusive art déco furniture and will include six bedrooms and bathrooms, two living rooms, a kitchen and a board meeting room. The remaining 64 rooms in the “tower” will be furnished in a sophisticated combination of classic elegant interiors and contemporary design with clever technical feature and spacious, natural stone bathrooms.

The refurbishment of the distinctive “tower” is part an overall refurbishment concept for this traditional Berlin hotel. During the past two years the hotel has also opened the “Reinhard’s im Kempinski” restaurant which has a fantastic terrace and classic Berlin coffeehouse tradition. This cost 2.5 million euros and the restaurant is, meanwhile, extremely successful. Shortly afterwards, the hotel’s separate conference floor, theBel Etage on the first floor, with four function rooms and the legendry Schlosssaal, was also fully refurbished and re-designed at a cost of around 1.5 million euros. Furthermore, the well known Gartensaal on the ground floor with a light-flooded conservatory has been renovated and, already this November, it is planned that the hotel foyer and the Gobelin Hall, which Berliners refer to as “Berlin’s most beautiful drawing room”, will also be carefully renovated and re-furnished.

The famous Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin is regarded as the head hotel and name-giver of the Kempinski hotel group and is a real Berlin institution. The legendary 5-star hotel opened in 1952 as the first luxury hotel in West Berlin and quickly developed into the centre of social and political life. In 1958 the hotel was extended with the long central building and, in 1968, the 11-story “tower” extension was built.
